Sorry but you would be wrong on that. The efficiency of the wide head, or any wide implement for that matter, comes from less trips thru the field and less turning. While he may have to use a slower forward speed he would still be more efficient than the 40 footer, all else equal.


5' on a head isn't the same as comparing a 16 row to a 24 row planter or something like that. You can drive the exact same speed with the planter. All you are gaining with a 45' is less turns.

other thing is I haven't seen anything that will spread straw out evenly on a 40' let alone a 45'.
