I don't quite get what your doing? Are you cutting some off each blade or just a few of them.
What difference has it made for you? Less trash in the head? Faster ground speed?
Think of a handheld mixer/eggbeater your wife uses. Turn it on high speed and take a long dowel pin and see if you can get it to enter the beaters. Same principle.
