North Central Illinois | Population could be part of my problem. I dropped 36k, expecting to knock out a lot with the rotary hoe. I did, but it wasn't uniform, so at least 50% of the plants were at full population. I think I will back off population a bit next year, as the plants with extra space put on some huge ears. The headlands that get driven on turning during cultivation always yield as well as any other part of the field, and they get thinned out to not much over 20k.
I have a couple other fields of 5879 that are still standing well.
