Depends on many factors. Rain and temperature being the biggest factors.

In my experience, 17-18% probably will start to heat with the temperatures you'd expect this time of year in your part of the country (with no aeration.) But if fed up in two weeks I wouldn't think it'd be a huge problem.

I manage a few grain elevators and we put millions on the ground, 17-18% is not a huge deal if tarped with air. If it were me and I had to do what you're attempting, I'd probably try to at least tarp it, in case you got a big rain event.
