Talk to him, Chris. Be forthright with him. Truth spoke lovingly can have impact. It sounds like he is somewhat fooled by the world. He may be right on the brink of a real awakening.
I had a similar experience with a guy I knew and thought I'd never be friends with and, after several episodes for him, we are brothers.
