In my area the sooner we get to tassel the better, more likely to be cooler at pollination. I don't think getting to pollination fast matters at all, just like I don't think a dry June matters if it rains in July. A slower grain fill is obviously better than fast, but other variable such as rainfall will effect overall yields as compared to other years. It seems to me like a lot of areas in the cornbelt cooled down during grain fill this year.
