Subject: RE: Question for the guys selling bulls

Driftless SW Wisconsin

After I use my retained yearling bulls for one breeding season I usually just sell them as bulls at the sale barn. $1.10 on an approx. 1300 lb bull (that has already earned his keep breeding 10-15 heifers or cows) is not bad.  I have sold a couple as breeders when asked but really don't care to do that. I don't like to be responsible for someone else's satisfaction with a bull. They may be looking for something very different than I am in a bull.

My non retained bulls are usually cut by my vet at workup around 200-300 lb.  One year we did them heavier and don't care to do that again. They don't recover and resume gaining as quickly as if they are cut earlier.
