N FLA | I would say take a step backwards and consider using good quality forage as a protein and energy supplement to cheap hay. We are taught one hour per day of quality grazing will meet nutritional needs. The growth curves just arent well matched to continuous grazing in my opinion. I would look hard at rape and turnips for your post freeze grazing. They should make good feed until 20 degrees or below I think. Maybe then you can move into stockpile grass. Then rye and ryegrass.
I've never lived in Indiana. But instead of 20 acres of turnip, rape, rye and ryegrass. My gut says i would want 10 of rape and turnips (maybe throw a little ryegrass in). And the other 10 acres rye and ryegrass for late winter/spring grazing.
