NW Central Ohio | ...not necessarily. I was following another dump trailer out of a town a few years ago with my semi. Wasn't following extremely close or anything..seemed like everything was pretty safe. They were building an ethanol plant outside of town..it hadn't rained for more than a month, and everything moving out there was pulling a half mile dust trail. So a front is passing through as we leave town..and the wind starts blowing hard. All that dust gets picked up and is blowing across the road. The first two trucks in line pile in to this dust cloud..and immediately get on the radio saying they can't see. I hit the dust..and it was like someone threw a blanket over your head. I got down to 5-8 mph..and was creeping along, all the while expecting a car to come barreling in to me...when I just see the back of the dump in front of me appear soon enough for me to get to the brakes but not stop in time. Here he stopped in the middle of the road without saying anything...while I was groping along looking for the other side. When the cop took all the info...he didn't cite anyone...because like he said.."You didn't have a chance". I guess it was his prerogative that day. | |
