Subject: RE: Adding harrow to disk ripper or chisel????

We had a DMI 527 that had a heavy duty MacFarlene harrow. Neber had any issues with the harrow balling up & it left the ground smooth enough in the fall that by the next spring we could spray without working the ground. The 527 only had 27" inch spacing so don't know how a harrow would work on a machine with wider spacing. Last couple years that we had the 527 we also owned a DMI 530B, 30" shank spacing, with covering discs. To get the machines to leave the ground similiar when working in the same field we took the harrow off the 527 & put a covering disc attachment on. With the discs it didn't leave the ground as level. FWIW, a lot of our ground is heavy black soils
