Back when we used engines to irrigate, at every startup we would short each of the murphy gauges with a screwdriver to make sure they all worked. Could short it, trip the Murphy switch and push in the button quick and keep running. Go to the next gauge.
Don't know how much we learned doing that, but felt better testing it all out.
