Subject: RE: Cover crop in dry climate

South Central Kansas, Harper County
This is one of the worst soybean fields I have, and the pigweed pressure is TERRIBLE, as you can see. If I could have gotten a covercrop established last year after soybeans, I feel like I wouldnt be in quite as of bad of shape. Normally the beans/milo come off too late to get a covercrop established, but I may try some oats planted in Feb, which would give me something nice to plant beans or milo into, but probably not much for weed control. Not sure if spraying some type of pre late fall early winter after beans/milo harvest, would help much for spring time weed control or not? I would think atrazine would help somewhat in fields going to milo, and possibly metribuzen for fields going to beans? Im sure someone will chip in with some ideas.
Jim
