| I'm looking at switching out the houle disk closers because the constant shower of manure on the bearings means most days I'll be hunting around for a disk that fell off. I've looked at the VTI and Farmstar and they look pretty nice, but like all row units (including the simple Dietrich) cost $1500/row w/o bar or anything else. Since I have access to a laser cutting machine (to make a frame) I could make one myself for far less. A large coulter is probably the priciest part at $70 for a 22". Bearings, steel for the frame and some sort of shank/delivery tube and closing wheels will be a fraction of $1500. Does anyone have any pics of a DIY strip til row unit? I'm doing about the same thing, but will need to cut a little deeper and use a shank/tube to connect a 3" inch hose. The closing set up would be the same as most ST rigs. | |
