The first time your work on a budd nut setup everyone feels like an idiot.  Welcome to the club.

I was set up, my teacher took off the outer nuts, then showed me the inner nuts and said take them off.  They switched the gun to reverse (on reverse threads) and left.  Couple minutes later they came back snickering asking how it was going.
