Mine started hard till I replaced the check valve, which would line up with losing prime as a4t-1600 said. Can't remember for sure where it was, but thinking it was inline somewhere up by the engine. A lot of help, huh? :) Maybe someone here can help with that. I never had to resort to pulling it, tho. It would just crank about twice as long as it should.
