Subject: RE: Cummins 5.9 hard starting

central South Dakota
Did a bit of research and discovered that the Howe's I've been using for years really isn't that good of a lubricating additive. I'll get some Opti-Lube XPD and add that to my fuel for lubrication.

Ran the loader several times today, first start took tons of cranking, initial smoke seemed white. I had let it sit with the key on a while before starting, in case there is an electric pump that builds pressure. Later starts, less smoke and appeared more like black, and not as much.

I expect since the two hoses seem a bit spongy, worth replacing them, also.

After getting started, everything runs fine as far as I can tell.
