Subject: Gap in my education

I must have been sick the day they taught us about tires on ski loaders. I have a small older Deere skid loader that had a bad tire. I replaced it with a new tire that in its unworn state is noticeably larger in diameter. The other day while driving across the lawn I noticed the ugly tracks I was making.
Then it occurred to me, since I believe the two tires on a side are hooked together, was one being dragged or pushed?
Is there a rule that skid loader tires are only to be replaced both one one side or all four?
