For Kicks and Giggles.. Roughly the amount the US is paying to Import Crude.. we peaked out at 336 Billion per year in 2011.. the run up from say.. 2003 to 2008 is probably what popped the US housing bubble.. and contributed to the Great Recession..
Looking at Energy costs at a Third of what they once were.. leaves the US Consumer with extra spending $$$.. might support your thesis...??
