My wife has a hp laptop, it had some screen issues a few weeks ago, I pulled it apart and found where the screen plugs to the motherboard was loose, snapped it back down it was good to go. It has some design issue with the hinges being stiff(seems like a common HP problem) and I think that contributed to the screen unplugging.
