Harvest it just as seed head appears , you have high quality, digestible feed. The older it gets , quality (nutrient value) drops . A three week delay will result in a "filler" quality feed needing protein and energy supplement, just as would be required with overly mature hay. Grass silage changes much as maturity increases, whereas corn silage will have high energy value almost regardless of its harvest stage and the protein varies little also. | |
