Subject: Is small seed corn size more profitable for the seed companies?...from below

SW Indiana
A few of us where having a discussion in the post below about seed corn weighing 32 pounds per bag. Thought I'd start a new thread to maybe get some more thoughts on the subject. 20 years ago I don't remember getting seed under 50 lbs per bag, where today its normal, have had seed the past couple of years in the low 30's for 80,000 kernels.

So my question is, is seed companies now genetically producing smaller kernels to boost profits?

If a bag weighs 56lbs and sells for $300 that is $300 per bushel

If a bag weighs 32lbs and sells for $300 that is $525 per bushel

Another way to look at it. Seed company harvests 1 bushel of large seeds yielding 80,000 seeds, sell 1 bag for $300. Seed company then harvests a different variety 1 bushel with very small kernels yielding 160,000 seeds, sell 2 bags for $300 each. What do you guys think? Is it all about the money? Or am I missing something?

I think it has rained wayyy tooo long here in SW Indiana and I'm running out of things to think about.
