Fellow I work for had one of those Chinese lanterns land inside his hay barn. Blew in through an open side door.
It was late fall, 60x100 barn was completely packed full of small squares.
Burned an area maybe 3 feet around on the floor. I cannot believe the entire barn didn't go up. Would have been disaster for him; that's his winter income. Fire Department took the report but never found out who let them go.
I can't believe those things are legal. Letting an open flame off, with absolutely no idea of where it will land?
Open-top storage tanks at a refinery? Coal pile at power plant? Firewood yard? It is crazy!
