Floyd County, Iowa | My thoughts:
I farm, and also work at a co-op part-time in agronomy dept. I have my own pt sprayer that I use on my own land, but have co-op do some, also. I have both commercial and private applicator licenses.
Co-ops do farm out some spraying on occasion, but only when it gets to be crunch time, and you won't get the big square fields. If there is enough business to warrant farming it out on a regular basis, they'll get another machine and hire more help if needed.
One thing to remember is that just because you might have a new sprayer, if you don't have a proven track record, don't expect them to put their reputation and liability on the line by hiring an unknown. Too much on the line to risk a bad experience.
I'd suggest you do your own for a few years to establish your own good spraying reputation/image.
Or go to work at a crop care business to get that image/reputation established. But if you already farm, this may not work out so well.
