NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | I get the luxury of replacing the steel roof on my hog finisher shortly. I never dreamt a steel roof would only last 19 years. From talking to my local lumber yard guy it sounds like this is a pretty common problem with these vintage finishers around here. I thought they'd last double that. Starting to get pin holes in it in places. I was wondering is there a market for used steel? I've seen cattle guys use steel roofing for snow breaks around their cattle yards before. I would think it'd be good for putting on the sides of older buildings also.
I guess what I'm asking is if there is a market for used steel roofing and if so how do you price it?
Or do I just haul it to the junk yard? Seems like a waste to do that.
I know one thing is for sure I'm not keeping it. I have zero desire in keeping or storing all that steel around here at my age. The building is 41' X 252' so there will be a bunch of it. Sheets will be I'm guessing a tick under 23' but I haven't gotten up on the roof yet to measure it yet. | |
