Sorry I missed this yesterday.
I agree with the consensus that salt is what is needed, followed by fiber (I've seen cattle eat dirt trying to buffer their rumen).
If your pellet is complete, it should have all of the mineral they need for gain and maintenance.  Putting mineral (or a mineral tub) out is a waste of money in my opinion - they will go at it if they need it or not out of boredom or to go after the salt or molasses it contains.  The exception is I do like to use stress tubs in addition to the balancer or supplement on newly received cattle for the first week or two, but that's it.
