NW Central Ohio | ..in the sandy loams around here we don't need them even when we're knifing anhydrous on no-till fields. When we get to the heavy soil...if it's fall tilled and spring worked...we don't need them there either if the ground is fit. If we try and side-dress in the heavy soil that is no-tilled...God Above couldn't get the slots to seal let alone closing discs....so we end up using either urea or 28% on those fields. We generally don't worry about a little whiff of smoke coming out of the slot a few feet back of the toolbar. If we see product leaking from the slot at the beginning of the round we just made ...then something needs to be done. | |
