Subject: RE: Geese in corn

nw NC
I do not know for certain that geese will pull up just-emerged corn like turkeys and crows. As geese do not have the pointed beak like turkeys and crows , which peck at the soil to uncover the kernel, geese probably could not move enough soil to uncover the seed. If soil was soft/mud they could possibly move it, but if soil was firm/dry crusted, I doubt that they could. However, they probably could learn that there is a kernel attached to a tiny corn sprout if the kernel came out of the soil as they tugged on the seedling sprout in their grazing.

I do know that geese will repeatedly graze young corn plants in areas until the corn is so damaged that it will make nothing. There were some here years ago that grazed a spot in a field. Notice I said "WERE".
