Subject: RE: Ilevo treatment alone

Central Florida
The best results ( yield increase ) comes from the combination treatment of Votivo and ILeVO. We have been finding Lesion and Spiral nematodes which are suppressed by Votivo until the roots stop growing. ILeVo has been promoted for cyst and SDS but all nematodes can cause the same disease problems. ILeVO doesn't move much in the soil whereas Votivo grows around the roots as long as the roots keep growing. All nematodes bring disease in with them as they penetrate into the roots. That is why a good SDS score on a soybean variety doesn't mean you can't have a bad SDS problem. The soybeans resistance to SDS is based on its roots ability to prevent penetration from the disease. The nematode opens that root up and then brings it in with them like a disease on a hypodermic needle found on the ground.
Cyst nematodes are increasing again as our PI88788 gene is not preventing new races of cyst from evolving. I have pulled a sample that had 1965 cyst nematodes/ 100cc soil and 83,500 eggs/cup of soil . The threshold is more than 25 nematodes/ 100cc is very severe and over 10,000 eggs/cup of soil is very severe by U of Illinois standards. I am recommending Radishes and or cereal rye as cover crops along with Votivo and ILeVO. Radishes and cereal rye will help reduce the nematode populations. This field in northeast Missouri also had Lesion, Spiral, Pin, Dagger and Stunt nematodes present.
