NW Iowa | This is barely related to the conversation but sort of---when I was in college, prof said that if Sioux County, IA was a state that it would have been the 7th largest pork producing state in the nation at that time. That may have changed since then because of consolidation, integration, and an enormous amount of new facilities being built in a lot of different places. But the point is there is significant concentration of production in relatively small areas.
I would believe that about those counties growing that much corn. There's a lot of counties included and if you drive I-90, or Hwy 9, or Hwy 18 pretty much all you see is corn. Primarily better corn ground than soybeans, most likely. | |
