This may not be idea, but much cheaper than sectioning a machine.
How they work, combine videos.
Videos work, but it sounds like this is supposed to be an exhibit. Seeing the real thing in front of you is much more engaging. I'd also suggest a large visual illustration that shows the crop flow with bullet points about the major areas. Could also add small video stations with animations that explain the flow and what happens since you can't really combine corn with the exhibit. The visual shows what's happening where and why which helps explain the real cutaway combine.
Then make a 3D video of a corn cobs trip through a combine lol.
