I work at a fertilizer dealer and we have the best luck holding the hose about a foot in front of a torpedo heater; then spray something on the barb to make it slip easier (typically PB Blaster). We always use t bolt clamps instead of the worm gear. The worm gear always seem to leak on the larger hoses.
