Subject: RE: So far ...

Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
We all know that the weather is unpredictable but so far El Nino weather has played out as expected. All three of Darrel Good's observations, El Nino, wet fall & warm winter can be explained by a mass of water half the size of an ocean that's 2 degrees warmer that normal. Warmer water means increase evaporation, more water in the atmosphere and warmer moist air to move over North America thus making for more rain and warmer temperatures, including warmer early soil temperatures.
Even we farmers know that earlier warmer soils dry out faster. However, this pattern of moist warm air can collapse quite suddenly and when it does now you are left with a warmer than normal soil without any additional moisture. What happens when you've got warmer soils with dry air?
It is possible that El Nino conditions will continue long enough to get us through the growing season. This remains to be seen.
I'll just make this observation. Last year at this time we had more than a month of continuous below 32 deg and would not see above freezing temperatures for another couple of weeks. Yesterday ,the temperature here was 78 deg. Not only is there no snow cover but the ground has been thawn since late Feb. This just isn't natural.
