It will be fine,what makes a difference if you take 2 inches off the back or have 2 inches hanging off the front you still only have 5 inches.
I think you really want the thick collar portion supported by axle, not hanging. The thinner taper lock area doesn't support as well, it just locks.
I would rather lose locking area than support area.
And, yes, your entire message can be taken in a very different and inappropriate way. Which I find humorous but will leave alone.
