We had a 4830 and was unhappy withe the boom for the same reason.  Have a 4038 now and it is an amazing machine. It takes Mother Deere a while but they finally have it right.  No more center pivot but it swings off of two bone type arms and is much more stable.  New cab much quieter.  They cost too much but I don't  see another machine that matches this one.
