We have two of those with 8LLs and get along great with them.  All the power we need for 700bu corn.  I also wonder if you may have other issues.  They aren't speed demons but paired with that transmission they are near perfect for our needs.  We never have had any complaints.  Is yours an automatic?  If so, those engines are notoriously short in that combo.
