yes, they take some European synthetic. it's probably more available now but when the engine first came out i was looking into them and at that time only dealers had the oil. i would think by now parts stores are starting to carry it and prices should drop as it becomes more and more available. only reason i didn't get an ecodiesel myself was that there was no stock anywhere around and a 4-6 month wait to order, couldn't even find 1 just for a test drive. it's still a good bit extra but if you're towing enough it would easily pay that back in fuel savings. i get anywhere from 8-12mpg towing with the hemi while supposedly the ecodiesel can get 30ish so that's where it'd really shine. of course unloaded will still be better but not enough to justify the extra cost over the hemi if you're not towing enough to get the real benefits
Amsoil has had this oil for years. It's a 5W-30. I have sold some for VW's if I remember right. About $10 qt. |
