Subject: Everything Corn Tender

First post here, but I've visited the site often and appreciate all the insights I've gleaned from the rest of you. Anyway, I was looking for a corn seed tender to try to speed up our planting operation a bit. Mostly just my dad and I, and last year we dumped too many bags into our old 955 cyclo from the back of a pickup and then had to get the semi to haul the spray trailer out to load liquid fertilizer. I planted and my dad was vertical tilling elsewhere and bringing me seed and fert when needed. This slowed him down soo much that on one particular day we got about the same amount of acres done with no breakdowns... So I got to thinking on what we needed and kind of assumed there would be something out there we could buy. Nope, nothing out there met ALL the requirements I was looking for: 500 gallons of liquid with a pump, a single seedpack, poly auger or conveyor, on a single trailer that our old farm pickups can pull around and leave where needed next. So I figured since we have a bunch of NH3 running gear laying around from setting up double tanks a few years back, I had that free to start.
I got a seedpack from a local dealer who had a late return that got wrote off and two 250 gallon shuttles that weren't returnable. Already had a transfer pump, and found an old Westfield 6 inch 16 foot auger from a local guy. ordered some poly-cupped flighting online and got to building. Started with the running gear as a base and started adding 2x4 and 2x3 tubing on top of it. Just used some 5/4 decking boards on top of the steel. Thought of lots of different ways to hold the seedpack on, but basically just used angle iron we had laying around. Pictures explain better than I. Decided we wanted the auger to get completely out of the way in transport so made a swing arm for it kinda like on an air seeder cart. Made a removable shoot to help guide the corn into the hopper our of some 16 gauge steel and light angle iron. mounted the hydraulic control on the tube within reach of the door on the seedpack so you can control both at once. The male fittings on the side of it are going to plug into the back of the planter. I'm planning on splittling the line to the fans so i can just flip a handle on the back of the planter, plug it in and go. So far I have less than $1200 into the thing. Just thought I'd share what I came up with.
