I would definitely go to one of the belt tubes, either Deere's ExactEmerge brush-belt, or PP's SpeedTube. Either one will drop the seed farther forward in relation to the blades, which gives you more precise depth control -- i.e., there are fewer problems with sidewall blowout affecting seed placement when the seed is deposited farther forward in relation to the blades.
Deere has a retrofit for ExactEmerge tubes going back to 2011 planters, I think.
