2. first time doing cover crops
I have 2 quarters that are in wheat, that I will follow up with cover crops in July after harvest.
Next spring one is to go to milo, other to corn.
My question. When do I apply my N for my spring crops?
Usually I have all my N on via gas by October. I have a 30' blue jet 20" center cold flow applicator. I like the knife as its a way, I feel, to help break up soil compaction from the drill, sprayer, combine, trucks etc. I can spread dry as well, but unsure how 100 pounds of actual N will get down to the root zone through a good bed of cover crops. In the past when I apply dry, its more like 20lbs just as a little boost, not as the main source of N.
Liquid N is out, that is too $$$$ for me.. My planter is not set up for that either, that would be yet another cost.
thanks
