As a Canadian, I didn't know how much times were going to change after Butz urged farmers to "plant fencerow to fencerow". Other countries, like Canada, had been able to take advantage of "the paid not to plant corn programs" of previous administrations. By that time I was committed to full-time farming. and hit with Farm Bills that followed.

"Loose shoes" Butz also had tax problems which I don't remember hearing about. 

A followup question about it being different this time: are there still programs like loan rates and deficiency payments?
