I was in China 3 years ago. Your partly right. The Chinese were very advanced for a long time then communist control about ruined the country. Actually they did ruin the country. Really dumb decisions by Chairman Mao in the 50's.
When Nixon opened relations in the 70's that began the process of China opening up to the rest of the world and as they say, the rest is history. They have had an advantage of not having to do a lot of trial and error and research. They do go a little too far at times and take and copy technology but to them if they can get away with it they do it. That moves them forward so much faster at such less cost. Their very shrewd business people. The Chinese have always looked at the long term. They have had their problems in the past. Now, they are experiencing growing pains of the present.
