Initial RR as I remember were in the $18.50 range with a $5 tech fee refundable if you didn't harvest a crop. The Tech fee refund was a marketing program. At the time, Roundup was the only glyphosate available and labelled and it sold for about $40/gallon.

Over the years, the price per acre of the program stayed fairly level with the value shifting from the chemical to the soybeans. With the introduction of more generic glyphosates, Monsanto used the opportunity to hold their revenue with the seed.

PVP has always protected against selling patented seed. The trait business was a stronger patent whereby it could be licensed to be used for a set amount of time, in this case for one growing season, just as software is licensed for one user, one computer or, in the case of Windows 365, licensed for one year with a termination built in.
