I remember reading somewhere that the adoption of mechanical pickers was one of the most rapid changes in the history of agriculture. From 1958 to 1962 (I believe those were the dates, may be off a year) cotton went from 100% hand picked to 90% machine picked. The adoption of round bales has been similar. Our gin ginned their first round bales in '09 and by 2012 it was 85% round bales.
