Subject: Interesting cover crop pic

Mount Upton NY
Was spreading some bed pack their other day and snapped this pic. This was rye cover crop broadcast in September. On the left we spread some dairy lagoon manure. I think this really demonstrates the usefulness of cover crops in retaining nutrients. We are a dairy farm in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Regulations are only going to get stricter. So we are implementing conservation practices ahead of the curve. We planted 1000 acres of corn and chopped 500 for silage. Every silage acre gets cover crop. The grain acres did not get cover cropped because it was too cold and late when we got it combined.
