Mercer County, Ohio on the Indiana line | I've got a laying hens.
My experience is about 1.2 tons per 20k hens per day. But my manure is no where near 60% moisture. I'm at a 30% moisture in my stock pile. I can email you an analysis of my manure if you'd like to see real fertilizer value.
If he is using belt battery cages tell him it's a no deal unless he puts blowers on the manure belts 24/7 to get it to 30% moisture. With that number of birds 1 or 2 10hp blowers should be enough. 60% water makes manure much harder to spread and more expensive to haul.
He should build the manure storage barn on his building because he'll need to run manure belts every other day rain or shine. He can't expect you to take a spreader load of manure in February or even April when you're planting corn. I'd tell him to build enough storage for 500 tons. Or a 50x80 with 10' concrete sides.
As fertilizer I'd like to spread 1-3 tons per acre before every corn crop I raise. Chicken manure can really benefit a corn crop. |
