Central Iowa | The advice from 30 years ago was good and still holds true today. The problem is I "strayed" away when the Roundup Ready technology came out. I went away from the burn down, pre-emerge with the planter and moved away from row cultivation. I eventually began to encounter resistant waterhemp, I realized (like a lot of other farmers) that I had become too reliant on just a single product and not enough mechanical.
Now I'm back to growing conventional beans, Roundup/2-4DLV6 (now 16/16oz), pre-emerge herbicide and row cultivation. So now I am employing multiple modes of action both chemical and mechanical. I have gone the full circle.
So yes, I have resistant weeds and have revamped my weed control program to deal with them. |
