For that last bit, are you looking for more of a biological approach?

Saw a presentation by Gabe Brown and others last month on cover crops, Gabe was a bit more than just covers.

I'm not sure I buy into his deal full on for my location, but some of the others on stage were 1/4 to 1/2 as involved as him, and can see where that path could offer some good bits. As Lawfarms says, if you believe and try to make it work, a lot of things have potential. If you don't, they won't.

Think several quieter posters here on this site are somewhat down that path?
