"Here", especially in No-till/strip till, there is usually a benefit to putting 30 to 60# of actual liq N on with the planter vs nothing. There also has always been the feeling that some P at planting helps. There have been studies done that generally show a benefit over a half the time with a planter app of N or P. Whats interesting to me was that the yield benefit to mixing Liq N and Liq P together at planting increased the odds for a yield bump more often than not. I'm not sure why that happens exactly.
In your case, I don't think that there will most likely be a long time between you freshening your strips and planting- I'd be tempted to just do whatever you're thinking about doing with the planter with the strip thing trip. I'd still plan on side-dressing, I think thats a beneficial extra trip most of the time. For a number of reasons. | |
