Subject: RE: 972 macdon double swath

Northeast ND
We have a 25' double swath 972 mounted on a 2930. We also have a 30' 974 flexdraper with adapter for CIH combine, so I am familiar with these headers.

In order to mount the 972 on a combine, you would need a center feed adapter. Model 873 adapter, I believe? Not sure how easy an adapter would be to find, especially for a specific combine. Unless you already have one.

Also, the driveline for the sickle is different. On the swather, the rigid driveshaft runs along the back of the main beam all the way to a hanger bearing that is just to the left of the center opening, and the flexible driveline goes from there to the RIGHT side of the 2930 tractor. On a combine header, the rigid driveshaft goes about half as far on the back side of the header, and is mounted lower, so the flexible driveline can go down from there to reach the LEFT side of the feederhouse.

The hydraulics shouldn't be too much of an issue to adapt.

The driveline issue could be solved, the parts are available to do it either way, but it wouldn't be the kind of thing you would want to switch back and forth all the time.
