It is confusing but if the goal was to get national attention (tv exposure) it had to be on the Hawks helmets because IA St football has never really got any national attention.
Now it is promoted by a partnership between the U of I and Iowa Farm Bureau but the University of Iowa holds the trademark/patent (whatever you want to call it) on the logo so I doubt you'll ever see it on a Cyclone helmet.
That is why "Farm Strong" was created by/for IA St and Farm Bureau.
